Ninety-one

Ninety-one is a visual reminder of PETRUS and their unwavering commitment to principles. In 1991, a particularly inferior vintage in Bordeaux, the winemaker at Chateau Petrus decided there would be no Petrus at all. Sometimes it isn’t what we do in life but rather what we decide not to do that defines us.

This artwork is part of the Veritas collection which gets its name from the phrase “In Vino, Veritas” – or “In Wine, Truth”. In the case of Chateau Petrus, their commitment to their own truth made ‘91 a very important vintage.

This piece has hundreds of feet of hand-blown borosilicate glass, filled with wine that has been hermetically sealed to prevent the colour from evolving. The wine is in front of a pigment ink print on acrylic gold mirror. Museum-grade plexiglass filters out the UV light to further protect the wine from ageing.
